Anna Margolina Meets Anna Margolin

In 2019 jazz singer Anna Margolina (Berlin) got interested in the texts of her famous namesake – the American Yiddish poet Anna Margolin (1887-1952). On the special performance she will sing several songs written on Margolin’s lyrics. The audience will also hear some popular Yiddish songs from the 1930s in a jazz arrangement and songs by George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Irving Berlin.

Anna Margolina was born in Minsk, in a family of musicians and artists, where her musical education began. In 1992 she moved to Berlin and took singing lessons with i.a. Pascal von Wroblewsky. With her ensemble, founded in 2015, she plays sold-out concerts, including “The Orange Room”, a concert series by JazzRadio Berlin. Last year Anna Margolina performed as soloist of the Andrej Hermlin Swing Dance Orchestra in the Konzerthaus Dortmund, Nikolaisaal Potsdam, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Konzerthaus and Philharmonie Berlin.
Alexey Wagner (guitar) was born in Barnaul, Siberia. At the age of ten his classical guitar lessons have begun, and during his studies he was a multiple winner of music competitions. From 1996 to 1998 he worked as a concert guitarist at the State Philharmonic of the Altai region, as well as a studio guitarist for radio and television. In 2000 he moved to Berlin and studied for four years at the Academy of Music “Hanns Eisler” in the field of jazz / popular music. He is currently working on his solo albums and is a sought-after guitarist, arranger and composer.
